the tree with lights in it is an original oil pastel drawing in a custom, hand-built wood frame.

This drawing was originally made for a group show, Mother, at Sager Reeves Gallery in Columbia, MO. The tree is one across the street from my home, through which I can see the sun rise every morning. The title comes from Pilgrim at Tinker Creek by Annie Dillard, in which Dillard describes the experience of persons seeing a tree for the first time after having eye surgery. This drawing, and my larger body of work for “Mother” explored finding transcendence in ordinary moments.
